Tailored curriculum 

  • Flexibility is the cornerstone of this course. Content is determined jointly by the academic coordination, the course teachers, and the student, in order to focus on the topics of greatest interest.
  • Content selection: Students may choose from 14 proposed modules (grammatical, cultural, pedagogical, and didactic) or suggest particular topics based on their real working context.
  • Theoretical support: Academia Uruguay provides each student with a specially curated resource booklet that serves as the foundation for all sessions.
  • Observation of real classes: As a complement to theory, participants observe live classes with real foreign learners at our school, allowing them to see strategies and concepts applied in a genuine classroom context.

Methodology

  1. Theoretical-practical dimension: Work on teaching strategies and lesson planning formats.
  2. Autonomy and reflection: Ongoing self-assessment is encouraged throughout the two weeks of the course to foster the independence of the future teacher.
  3. Rioplatense focus: Immersion in the distinctive features of Uruguayan and Rioplatense Spanish within the Latin American context.

Final assessment and certification 

To obtain certification, students must demonstrate integration of the competencies acquired:

  • Final project: Development of a didactic sequence plan or creation of an original teaching material for the ELE classroom.
  • Competency report: The course teacher will provide personalised written feedback detailing: strengths and areas for improvement in language proficiency; assessment of teaching competencies in the classroom; specific bibliography recommendations to address areas for development.
  • Ongoing support: Academia Uruguay remains available to answer pedagogical questions even after the course has ended.
